NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING FOR PROPOSED LOCAL LAW # 1 OF 2026 OF THE VILLAGE OF INTERLAKEN

PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that a Public Hearing will be held upon August 13, 2026 at 7:00 pm, at the Interlaken Public Library, 8390 Main Street, Interlaken, NY 14847, for the purpose of receiving public input and comments upon proposed Local Law # 1 of 2026, to adopt a local law to amend the existing authority of the Village of Interlaken respecting the residency of certain positions and offices to allow for hiring and appointment from a broader geographic area than as required under New York State statutes, such as the Village Law, the Civil Service Law, and the Public Officers Law. The Village of Interlaken’s experience with residency requirements, given the limited pool of eligible and qualified candidates, mandates this change as history has shown that the best candidates, and sometimes the only eligible or qualified candidates, are form nearby areas and not necessarily residents of the Village of Interlaken or even Seneca County.

All residents of the Village of Interlaken and the general public are invited to attend this public hearing, and individuals with visual, hearing, or other impairments or disabilities that require or request assistance should contact the Village Clerk Nancy Swartwood at (607) 532-9200 at least 48 hours prior to the time of the Public Hearing. Pursuant to existing Executive Orders, this public hearing will be held remotely, and the website location for participation, the links therefor, and any needed meeting passwords are at as follows: located at the Village’s Homepage at http://www.interlaken-ny.us/home.html.
